When I received an email from HSI I was overwhelmed to learn that this culture  continues to act out barbaric acts such as the one I have quoted from their email they sent me. Humane Society International (HSI) their TEXT reads..quoted from email..

Their suffering began weeks ago when they were first stolen from their homes or snatched from the streets. Since then, the dogs have been crammed into wire cages with no food or water, while being trucked over grueling miles. Their destination: the “Dog Meat Summer Festivals” in the Northeastern and Southern regions of China. The killing of the dogs already has begun, even though the festivals – that last up to two weeks -- are still several days away.By the end, tens of thousands of dogs will have endured unbearable suffering while stuck in these cages for weeks -- and then butchered.

Animal welfare organizations and activists in China are on the ground right now in the festival cities calling for the events to be closed down. Their efforts – and your support – can help the dogs. Last year, a dog meat festival in a different province was closed down thanks to public outrage and strong opposition and pressure from Chinese groups.

Sign the petition and we'll make sure it's delivered next week to the appropriate officials in Guangxi. http://action.hsi.org/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=104&ea.campaign.id=20990&ea.tracking.id=email&ea.url.id=148624&ea.campaigner.email=VnCwjT5ep22RKt8UNkyb9JkXnmY1yXz%2F&ea_broadcast_target_id=0

Your Message:

Please put an end to the Dog Meat Summer Festival

Dear Guangxi government,

I’m disturbed to learn of the “Dog Meat Summer Festival” scheduled to launch on June 21 in Yulin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Dogs killed for the festival are often trucked long distance, crammed into wire or wooden cages in which they are piled on top of each other. They are then bludgeoned and left to die slowly and painfully.

Butchering dogs -- as documented by Chinese activists, scholars, legal experts and health professionals -- is an animal welfare issue, a public safety problem, and a food safety concern. Often, the brutal killing goes on in front of children. In 2010, a similar festival, i.e., “Hutou Dog Meat Festival” in Zhejiang Province’s Jinhua City, was canceled due to concerns and outrage from the Chinese public.

The “Dog Meat Summer Festival” should be canceled this year and ended altogether.

Sincerely,
